Disneyland History

Disneyland was built in 1 year. Construction began on July 21, 1954. Walt Disney hired a research team to find the best place to hold the vision he had for Disneyland. Anaheim California was the spot chosen to hold a mountain, rivers and the other various ideas Disneyland now contains.
Disneyland was built for a total cost of 17.5 million dollars. July 17 1955 - Disneyland opens with 18 attractions, including the Jungle Cruise, Tomorrowland, Autopia, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, and the Mark Twain. The televised opening is hosted by Ronald Reagan, Art Linkletter and Bob Cummings. The 11,000 invitation only tickets to opening day are so easily duplicated that first day attendance shoots to 28,154, with an ABC television audience of 90 million. One entrepreneur folds a ladder over the park's backside fence and lets people in for $5. Official general admission cost $1. Cost of attractions ranged from 10c to 35c.

Personal Quote by Walt Disney

*I’d rather entertain and hope that people learn, than teach and hope that people are entertained.
*I’m not interested in pleasing the critics. I’ll take my chances pleasing the audiences.
*I hope we’ll never lose sight of one thing–that it was all started by a mouse.
*I happen to be an inquisitive guy and when I see things I don’t like, I start thinking why do they have to be like this and how can I improve them.
*It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.
*I love Mickey Mouse more than any woman I’ve ever known.
*I feel a great sense of obligation and gratitude toward the Order of DeMolay for the important part it played in my life. Its precepts have been invaluable in making decisions, facing dilemmas and crises. DeMolay stands for all that is good for the family and for our country. I feel privileged to have enjoyed membership in DeMolay.
*People like to think their world is somehow more grown up than Papa’s was.
*You know, every once in a while I just fire everybody, then I hire them back in a couple of weeks. That way they don’t get too complacent. It keeps them on their toes.
*Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.
*The proper comedy for the screen is visual. Films try to get too many laughs out of the dialogue. We use pantomime not wisecracks. Portrayal of human sensations by inanimate objects such as steam shovels and rocking-chairs never fail to provoke laughter. Human distress exemplified by animals is sure-fire. A bird that jumps after swallowing a grasshopper is a natural. Surprise is always provocative.
*I think the picture would have done better with a different title. Girls and women went to it, but men tended to stay away because it sounded sweet and sticky.

Disney Pixar's 'Brave'

Fairy tales are old hat for Disney, but in 2012 Pixar will release their first fairy tale titled,BRAVE, the story is set in the Highlands of Scotland and is about a courageous princess who would rather carve out her own future as a brave archer than living in a castle. Meridia (Kelly Macdonald, Boardwalk Empire, No Country For Old Men) turns her back on an ancient custom that is sacred to the lords: Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd, Rome), Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson, Late Late Show) and Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane, Harry Potter).
This act unintentionally unleashes havoc on the kingdom so Meridia searches for the Wise Woman (Julie Walters, Billy Elliot) for help who in turn grants her an ill-fated wish. Through her quest Meridia learns real bravery while trying to right her wrongs before a curse dooms the kingdom.
Due to scheduling conflicts Reese Witherspoon was originally thought of as the voice actor for Meridia. Given the story, the Scottish born Macdonald in the lead makes more sense. Also joining Macdonald will be Billy Connolly as the voice of King Fergus and Emma Thompson as Queen Elinor. John Ratzenberger is sure to be in there somewhere too.
“‘Brave’ is an epic adventure chock-full of action, humor and heart,” says director Mark Andrews in a press statement. “There’s no more perfect setting for this powerful tale than the dark and rugged Scottish Highlands. Imagine: magic, mystery and danger—all set within a haunting and beautiful landscape. It’s like nothing you’ve seen before from Pixar.”
For those wondering if Pixar was putting too much of an emphasis on sequels like Cars 2, Toy Story 3, and Monsters Inc. 2 (November 2, 2012) Brave looks to be like an exciting new adventure that is sure to have all the charm, humor and awesomeness we’re used to seeing from the prolific animation house. The voice cast is rock solid and apropos, looking at the early conceptual art, Brave will be a fresh palette as far as Pixar visuals go. Also, should anyone think Meridia’s tomboy character goes against the grain of Disney’s princesses, she is expected to join the Disney Princess franchise, further diversifying characters idolized by young girls.
Brave will be the 13th feature-length Pixar film set for a June 22, 2012 release and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D in select theaters.
